Updates on GPS Prashna Kundali Software

Last week we announced Free GPS Prashna Kundali Software (Horary Astrology Software). We got excellent feedback from astrologers and astrology enthusiasts. Based on the feedback and suggestions, we have made few changes to the software to make it more useful. These changes are most important -

  • We have introduced a new hyperlink named "GPS Accuracy". If you click on this link, it will tell you estimated GPS Accuracy in meters. This will help an astrologer taking decision whether to use software provided latitude/ longitude or to enter your own.
  • Started using higher precision for location detection. Though this option is slightly slower than earlier method, it gives more accurate latitude/ longitude.
Please continue sharing your feedback so that we can improve the software further.

Free GPS Horary Astrology Software Announced

Dear Friends,

We are happy to announce a new FREE astrology software interface that I am sure will be loved by Horary astrologers (both traditional and KP) and the astrologers who use “Time Charts” frequently. We call it “GPS Horary” and it is available at This software doesn’t require any input from the astrologer and can detect your latitude, longitude, time zone, dst etc. automatically and can generate chart based on that instantly. You just need to click on “Get Horary Chart” and instantly you will see horary chart (Prashna Kundali) – no input required. Some of the salient features of this software are -

1.       User’s Location Detection using GPS: It detects your position (latitude/ longitude) using GPS or GeoLocation technology which is already supported by most of the leading browsers and mobile phones. Generally it gives very accurate longitude/ latitude information of the user’s location (accurate up to few meters). I guess, Internet Explorer doesn’t support GeoLocation feature natively. You need to install Google Toolbar ( to get support of GeoLocation feature. Other browsers like Firefox, Chrome, Safari, iPhone browser, Android browser, Nokia browser doesn’t require toolbar. It is extremely accurate if accessed from the device that has GPS inbuilt like some of the recent mobile phones.

2.       User’s Location Detection using IP: If GPS coordinates are not available, it tries to find out your Location using your IP address. Though it is less accurate than earlier GeoLocation method, still good-enough for most of the practical purposes. If the software will use GPS, it will show “GPS Coordinate” in the Place field. If it is showing name of the place, it means that the software is using IP address for finding out latitude and longitude.

3.       TimeZone Detection: Not only that, it also tries to find out your time zone. So you need not to enter your time zone. Time Zone detection is based on your DST, so you need not to worry about DST either.

4.       DST Detection: It also detects whether DST (Daylight Saving Time) is applicable to your place or not based on your location. Finding out DST is a big headache for most of the astrologers for various cities, so this feature will be really convenient for the astrologers especially in the counties in US, Europe and Australia where DST is used.

5.       User’s Date & Time Detection: Last but not the least, it also picks up date and time from user’s computer and NOT from the server. Which means that it will use date and time for your place. (It would be a good idea to check your local machine clock prior to using this software. Now a days, Windows support the feature of synchronizing your computer’s time with atomic clock, so make sure you have enabled that and correct time on your computer.)

6.       KP Horary Number Auto Generator: If you are a KP astrologer, just click on “Random KP Number” and it will automatically fill computer generated random number between 1 to 249 in “KP Horary Number” field. For traditional astrologers or time charts, KP Horary Number is not required and it can be left as-it-is.

As it finds out everything automatically, all you need to do it to click on “Get Horary Chart” to generate Prashna Kundali or Horary Charts. Of course, you can change any value that you want to, if needed.

If you are using from your mobile phone, you should get even more accuracy, as now-a-days all hi-end mobile phones like iPhone, Android, Nokia, Samsung, LG, Sony etc. have GPS device inbuilt. You will enjoy this software really when you are travelling and somebody asked a horary question to you.

As this software is in beta phase, your feedback will be very useful to improve it further. Please write to or to me and share your feedback.

If you are member of any other astrology forum, you are requested to forward this email to those forums so that other astrologers also know about it and take advantage of it.

Here is the URL of the software again -

Thanks & Regards,

What is Adhik Masa or Extra Month of Hindu Calendar? When is it in 2010?

"Adhik Masa" is a word of Sanskrit origin which literally means Extra month. Adhik Masa is also known as Purushottam Masa, Mal Masa, and Malimmacha etc. Adhik Masa has started today i.e. April 15, 2010 and will end on May 14, 2010 as per English calendar. Because the extra month this year is Vaishakh as per Hindu Calendar, this extra month is known as Adhik Vaishakh Masa or Adhik Vaishak Mahina. So in current year there will be thirteen months in Hindu calendar. Apart from the normal 12 months, there is an additional month i.e. Adhik Vaishakh Masa.

Acharya Ram Hari Sharma has written a detailed article on "Rituals & Significance of Adhik Maas" on Astrology Magazine, and I am quoting from the article -
“Generally all efforts with the intention of worldly gains are strictly prohibited during Adhika masa as mentioned in scripture and one is advised to follow special rituals for this month. During this period, marriages, tonsures (mundan), inaugurations of new home, fasting with desire of some worldy gains, buying new ornaments and vehicles are prohibited.

The month that does not carry Surya Sankranti is called Adhimass and the month carrying two Sankrantis is called Kshayamass. As per Astrological calculations, Adhimass comes after 32 months, 16 days and 4 ghatis and Kshayamaas first arrives after 141 years and then after 19 years.”

Elizabeth Taylor's ninth marriage and astrology

Readership Level: Intermediate

According to news sources, Hollywood legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor is to marry for the ninth time at the ripe old age of 78. Taylor has been married eight times earlier. Her last marriage ended after five years in 1996.

I wanted to discuss this chart because it is unique in its respect. Nine marriages are not common at all and hence it gives us a very good case study for multiple marriages.

In Indian astrology, there are several yogas given for multiple marriages and I am not going to talk about it. There are so many classical texts and so many shlokas in Indian astrology that confuses astrology students. I want to give some very common rules which I always found correct.

Rule 1. 7th lord should be well posited in a sign. Exaltation makes the most powerful multiple marriage yoga
Rule 2. 7th lord should be in dual sign. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces are the dual signs.
Rule 3. There should be malefic influence, primarily of Mars and Saturn, on 7th house and 7th house lord.

Under the light of these rules, now let us check the birth chart of Elizabeth Taylor.

Elizabeth Taylor's birth details are as follows -
Date of Birth: February 27, 1932
Time of Birth: 2:15 AM
Place of Birth: London, UK

Birth details are taken from AstroDataBank and this chart is having A ratings. If the passes our rules we can safely say that the birth particulars are correct.

Rule 1. Taurus is falling in 7th house. Venus is lord of Taurus and hence it is 7th house lord. Venus is exalted in Pisces, so the rule 1 is fulfilled. As we know from the above rule, 7th lord must be very strong sign-wise to give multiple marriage.
Rule 2. Venus is in Pisces, a dual sign, so the rule 2 is also satisfied. As we know dual signs give multiple marriages.
Rule 3. 7th lord Venus is aspected by natual malefic Saturn and with another natual malefic Rahu. 7th house is aspected by Mars. So the rule 3 is also satisfied. Malefic influence is there both on 7th house and 7th house lord.

So we can safely say that the birth details are absolutely correct as far as rasi chart is concerned. You can see that Elizabeth Taylor's birth chart is an excellent chart for multiple marriage case study.

Will she really marry ninth time? What are the combinations in her chart that make her legendary actress? What else do you see in chart? If you are an astrology student, please share your thoughts in terms of comments.

Astrology for Dummies - Learn Astrology Step by Step

I have recently started writing one tutorial on Indian astrology for "Prabhat Khabar" newspaper. I thought why not to publish somewhere on Web so that everyone can benefit from it. As the title of this post suggests, the article starts with absolute basic concepts like planet, house and sign. I’ll keep progressing with more advanced concepts every week.

The article series will be available in two languages - Hindi and English. The people who want to read in हिन्‍दी (Hindi) can click here.

Here is the tutorial in English -

Generally most of the people are interested in astrology and want to learn this ancient science. But the biggest roadblock and most difficult question they face is – where to start learning from?
Quite a few succeed in finding a guru with their persistent endeavor, but these gurus teach astrology in such a complicated way that scares off even the earnest aspirants. Most of the astrologers begin teaching with birth-chart making; and its complicated mathematical calculations diminish learners' enthusiasm and frighten them away. And rest of the pupils run off after hearing complex and high-sounding terminology of astrology.
